At Real Life Community, it’s never been about money.

There are endless stories of baggage folks carry around with them about churches and money…of how the ushers closed the doors until a certain amount was reached, or a pastor harped on it (and then everyone learned he was skimming off the top), or a deacon showed up to a member’s home to talk about how close the person [...]

A New Thing – Group Life this Summer!

At Real Life Community, one of our core mission areas of focus is GROWING in Christlikeness. Historically, this is known within the church as “discipleship.” We don’t just want people coming to Sunday services and making decisions to believe in Jesus. We want each person to press in to the transforming work of God in their lives so that they can reflect the image of their Savior in the world.

We have chosen to work toward this goal of GROWING in [...]

Children’s Ministry Update

Dear Real Life Community,

I am happy to be able to update you with some great news for our church family!

Because the Holmes family is moving in May, we have been searching over the past couple of months for a new person to provide leadership to the incredible team who serves in Real Kids. After several interviews and a time of seeking God’s direction, this past weekend we voted as a Church Board to extend a call to Ciara Cunningham to [...]

Message Series – The Good & Beautiful Community

There’s this great line in 1 Peter where Peter is reminding Christians that they are a part of something larger than themselves.

They belong to the Christian community.

He writes these words to them, “But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light.” – 1 Peter 2:9

Chosen, royal, holy. God’s special possession. These are great descriptors of the community of people God [...]

Dear Friends,

It’s a strange time to be living as a Christian in the Western world. For several centuries, the Christian faith has been a sort of “default” in Western culture. If you weren’t Jewish or Muslim, it was assumed that you were “Christian.” Because of this, the Christian worldview, lifestyle and practices were commonly accepted and even foundational within culture.

The times, as they say, are a-changing.

Recent surveys [...]

Message Series – The Next 10

Hi Friends,

A few weeks ago, I started having some trouble with my vision. As I was reading, I noticed what seemed like a small piece of lint floating across my field of vision. When I jerked my head to the left and tried to swat it away from my eyes, it just lazily travelled across my field of vision and has remained “floating” around in my sight for the past several weeks.

I went to the Ophthalmologist last week and found [...]

“God is love,” we’re told in 1 John 4:8. We believe that God created out of the overflow of Trinitarian love that eternally moves between Father, Son and Spirit. Love is at the deepest levels of being, at the “heart” of the nature and character of God. It is this love that forms and holds together the universe.

It’s no wonder, then, that creatures who have been created [...]

This Is Jesus

One of the most famous stories in the Bible is the feeding of the 5000. It made such an impact on those who experienced it, that a telling of it made its way into all four of the gospels.

You probably know the outline of the story: Jesus and his disciples try to retreat to a quiet place to recover from a season of being sent in ministry (and from the blow of John the Baptist being killed). When they get [...]

Financial Peace University

Friends,

When Ashley and I were first married, one of our good friends worked at this company with a guy named Dave Ramsey. We had never heard of him, but apparently, he had written a simple book on personal finance called “Financial Peace” (it’s been updated now to “The Total Money Makeover”). Our friend decided to give us one for a wedding gift.

I think it’s the best wedding gift we received…by a mile.

I remember sitting down and reading through that book [...]
