Caren Miller
Hospitality Team

I am a wife, and hopefully a soon to be "hockey mom".  My husband and I LOVE hockey and are expecting. Not in the sense that you would normally think. We are waiting for the call from our adoption agency that we have been chosen to parent a child here in the United States. Yep, I guess you could say that we are "pregnant".  (LOL) We just don't know how long!
I am a stay-at-home wife and have been since April, 2008. In the realm of staying home God has been teaching me a lot about being able to live a life with frugality and at the time how to be generous with what God has given to our family, which is how God has called me to our Hospitality Ministry at Real Life.

Are you a 'clipper' too?

One of the things  I have come to learn is how much money can be saved by coupon clipping and how to be organized doing it. (It amazes me at what I have learned in just a few months) Hang tight folks! God has also been encouraging me to pass on this knowledge. Come back to this site, if you are looking to learn how to stretch your dollar at the grovery store. I am gathering all of what I have learned and am holding my very first class on February 27th at 9"00 AM. Please R.S.V.P. to couponcaren@gmail.com if you would like to attend my class.

I am looking forward to meeting you...and sharing some good "Southern Hospitality" at Real Life...

.. and ESPECIALLY getting to know others who feel the same way I do!

Together, we can build God's church.... one service in hospitality at a time!

Hospitality...It's in the Bible EVERYWHERE!

Remember the story where a little boy was asked to share his lunch?  How about the countless stories in the Bible where Jesus and the Disciples traveled from town-to-town and home-to-home spreading the Gospel? To me, there had to be food there somewhere...and when there's food, there is ALWAYS someone behind the scenes making sure that everyone is satisfied and feeling "at home".
THAT is hospitality.

Ever visit someone's house for the first time? The first thing after the door is opened, you are invited in. Someone might take your coat then after some conversation you are invited into the living area. Eventually, after social interaction and getting to know each other, you are finally invited into the kitchen. YES! The place where all GOOD conversations are held!

What's the first thing that you do when you come home after a long day away?
For me... the first thing I do is kick off my shoes, and run around in my sock feet.

Here at Real Life, our desire is for everyone to feel at home from the moment you first pull into the parking lot. We flip the whole concept of hospitality around. We put our "living room" and "kitchen" right up front. You are greeted by friendly faces at the door, and are welcomed in to our hospitality station for some fresh hot coffee, drinks, donuts, and some homemade snacks which are provided by our hospitality ministry. Our objective is for you to feel at home in "Dad's house".
We want you to "feel at home" after a long hard week....

If it means... "running around in sock feet"...so be it!

Want to get to know your "Real Life" family better?

Become a part of our Hospitality Ministry!
Many opportunities to serve, whether it be just for one Sunday's service or on a rotating schedule. Schedules are posted here as well as on the wall right outside of the Hospitality Station. Please see Caren for more details.

Below is a sample of the various opportunities for service:

WAKE UP CREW: Our Wake Up Crew is the first to arrive on the scene at 8:30 AM.
Are you the kind of person who is usually found "waking up the rooster" every morning? Do you enjoy the smell of a freshly made pot of coffee? If so, our Wake Up Crew might just be what you are looking for to get plugged in.  Duties include: making coffee, setting out plates, napkins, cups, drinks, setting out the condiments. Other duties might be serving, pouring drinks for kids, and organizing the food as it arrives is also a way you can help others. Many have said that an advantage of being part of the Wake Up Crew is not only do you get an opportunity to see the morning come alive, but it is a great way to fellowship with friends as you share in a good cup of freshly made coffee and home made pastries.

VISITOR's PACKET:
Several of our teens are busy putting packets together for visitors. These packets give visitors information about our church and the various ministries which are available.

GREETERS: Our Greeters arrive 9:30 AM.
Are you "Southern gentleman" and like to open the door for the ladies? Do you have a bubbly personality and fabulous lovable smile and do you like to meeting people? Duties might include, holding the door, escourting people in out of the rain, assisting parents with small children (Praise God for lots of babies!), handing out visitor's packets, showing visitors to the hospitality station, and assisting visitors in finding a table. Greeters may also be involved in handing out visitor's packets during the beginning of the service if anyone is missed prior to service.

REFRESHMENTS: Food and other refreshments begin arriving at 8:30 AM. Here at Real Life, we have some pretty special folks who rotate on a schedule bringing refreshments such as:

DRINKS:
MILK
ORANGE JUICE
VARIOUS JUICES
OTHER DRINKS

HEALTHY FOODS / SNACKS:
FRESH FRUIT
GRANOLA BARS
YOGURT

CLEAN UP CREW:
Are you the kind of personality who works hard all week and likes to sleep in a little? Are you the "late-nighter" who watches the moon disappear over the horizon before heading off to bed? If this is true for you, here is a way you can still be a part of a serving community and assist in hospitality. Ten minutes after the "final call" is made for coffee and refreshments, the Clean Up Crew is busy washing down the tables, taking out trash, cleaning the pots, dispensers, serving trays and containers. Other duties may also include preparing "care packages" if we have any pastries left over.

LAUNDRY:
Here is a real easy way to help in hospitality. Those who participate in this area rotate on a schedule taking home the soiled rags at the end of each service  and returning them clean the following week.

PASTRY PEOPLE: Do you like baking?
Our Pastry People, are pretty special people  who have the attitude of "the way to the heart is through the stomach". These folks enjoy getting up early, firing up the oven or stove, and preparing dishes to be brought in and shared among our Real Life family.  Our Pastry People rotate on a schedule to bring in something once a month. This monthly snack usually consists of no more than a serving of 24.  If you enjoy the aromas coming from your kitchen at home or if you have a favorite recipe that you would like to share with others, your Real Life family is eager to see your talents in the kitchen, and can't wait to taste it! Our "pastry people" usually arrive around 8:30 to the aroma of coffee that our "Wake Up Crew" has been getting a start on.

Here is a really cool thing about participating in the ministry of providing pastries: "Nothing goes to waste!" If we are blessed with "left overs" our hospitality ministry puts together "foiled care packages".  EVERYONE loves "home made care packages", right? Real Life has quite a few local college students; most of who live on campus. These care packages are sent home with these students as well as to others who are "home bound" if we are priviliged to have "leftovers".

Those who have participated in the past have brought the following:

Muffins
Chessy Bacon Biscuits
Biscuits and Gravy
Tarts
Sausage Biscuits

SPONSOR A SUNDAY!
Our Hospitality Ministry welcomes anyone who would like to become a part of this ministry in any shape or form. If you would like to get "plugged in" and don't fit any of the above or would like to become a "silent partner"  donations are gladly accepted. Notate your donations for: Hospitality
