Our Mission @ Real Life Community:

Connecting with God and others...

Here at Real Life, we believe it all starts with relationships.  That's why we've chosen to say right up front that we're about connecting with God and others.  The foundation of any spiritual life is a personal, relational connection with God.  And that relationship with God connects us in relationship with others who are on this journey with us.

We enter into these connections in various ways throughout the week.  But especially on Sunday morning our goal is to help create a space and environment where these connections can take place.  This is what we gather together for each weekend...to practice connecting.

Growing in Christlikeness...

Jesus called us to be his disciples - those who have given ourselves over to learning to live in the pattern Jesus laid down for us, by the power of God's Spirit.  We believe that it is the calling of every human being to be molded by God into the loving, self-giving character of the living Jesus Christ.  This transforming work of God is called "sactification."  It is a process that begins when we give our lives to God and receive forgiveness of our sins... and it ends when we are raised to new life in the resurrection.  So, this process of transformation, or sanctification, is a life-long process.

We do believe, however, that there is a moment that occurs along the growing process whereby God gives us a special grace to yield our lives wholly to the transforming work of the Spirit in our lives.  At this moment of self-yeilding, God quickens the pace of transformation and opens our lives to new levels of love, obedience and grace.

Spiritual Disciplines - As individuals, we take this step of growing in to be like Christ through our regular practice of spiritual disciplines - prayer, Bible reading, fasting, sabbath, and submitting our lifestyles and practices to the wisdom of God through the church.

Small Groups - As a community of faith, we practice growing through joining up with a small group of people from church for specific, directed study, prayer, accountability and support.

Sharing God's life with the world

Finally, we understand that this great LIFE that God has shared with us is not meant to be hoarded.  It is given so that it can be shared.  All of the love, grace, resources, healing that has been poured into us is for the whole world.  So, we spend our time at Real Life envisioning ways to share this new life with our community, our nation and our world.  We encourage those who call Real Life home to share all that God has shared with them, which includes:
  • Resources - tithing, giving, posting resources on the love bank, sharing in special projects in our community and around the world, etc...
  • Time, Gifts & Abilities - finding the unique ways God has gifted us and using those gifts and abilities within the church and to bless the community.
  • Testimony - sharing the story of how God's love has changed each of us with neighbors, co-workers, friends and family members who are far from God.
  • Generally "being the neighbor" God has called us to be.
Well, that's a little about who we are and what we're doing as a local church.  To find out more about the Church of the Nazarene and to get statements of faith and doctrine, visit www.nazarene.org.
