Our lead pastor, Erik Gernand, comes to us after serving as Young Adult/Preaching pastor for almost six years at Jackson First Church of the Nazarene in Jackson, MI. He is passionate about communicating the good news about Jesus in relevant ways to today’s culture, reaching out to those who don’t yet know God’s love for them, and helping our church community here at Real Life to grow as followers of Jesus and to be a blessing to our neighborhood and the world. Erik holds an undergraduate degree in Religion and Psychology, and a Masters degree in Religion, both from Olivet Nazarene University. Ashley Gernand is our worship leader. She was also on staff at Jackson First Church of the Nazarene as a worship pastor for five years. Ashley has a degree in music from Olivet Nazarene University. She has a beautiful voice, but most importantly has a special gift for leading God's people in worship. We are so thankful to have her here! Erik and Ashley have been married for seven years. They have two beautiful children, Anna Ryan and Grey.
Joy Paul joined the Real Life team in September, 2008. She grew up in Jackson, MI before going to college at Olivet Nazarene University in Bourbonnais, IL. Joy's love for children, paired with her growing relationship with Jesus, led her to be a Children's Ministry major. Joy interned at College Church of the Nazarene while in school and was hired on to the Children's Ministry team upon graduation. She served in that capacity for 2 years before moving to Tennessee.
Joy and Eric were married in 2007. Eric is currently a student at Vanderbilt Divinity School pursuing a Masters of Divinity degree. Together, they enjoy hiking, camping, sports, board games, and much more! Contact Joy by e-mail at joypaul@reallifecommunity.org
