December at Real Life Community

What a great time of year to celebrate Jesus together! December 2nd marks the beginning of Advent, which is always a very special time at Real Life. This year, there are so many things going on, we wanted to compile a list for you here so you don’t miss anything! So, here we go…

Saturday, December 1st – Kids Helping Kids Service Project

We’re kicking off the month with a service project called “Kids Helping Kids” with our 1 Mile Radius neighbors at Hobgood Elementary where we’ll be putting together food boxes for kids and families in need.

Sunday, December 2nd – Advent Begins (New Series, Devotional Books, Kids in Services)

This Sunday marks the beginning of Advent, the season of preparation for celebrating the birth of Jesus and for anticipating his coming again. We’ll be starting a new series this week called “A Thrill of Hope.” This series will take us through the traditional texts that lead up to the birth of Christ. Check out this brief preview of the new series…

We’ll also have two devotional books connected to the message series, available this Sunday, that will guide us as a church through the season. One is a daily devotional geared towards adults (all regular volunteers will receive one as a gift of thanks. Additional copies are available at the Connection Table for $5). The second is a family-themed devotional guide with activities for kids. Ciara has purchased one of these for each family. They’ll be available at the Real Kids entrance in the foyer.

During all morning services in December, the elementary kids will be in the main service. We wanted our families to experience this season together in worship. They’ll be participating each week in our Advent Candle lightings and will have special activities each week.

***Special Note – Angel Tree gifts are due back this weekend!

Saturday, December 8th – Angel Tree Party

We’ll be hosting our Annual Angel Tree Party at the church from 9-11am where we’ll provide breakfast, games and gifts for children who have an incarcerated parent. Volunteers for this event are still needed. You can sign up at the Connection Table or on the Real Life Community App if you’re interested.

Sunday, December 9th – Kids Christmas Musical, 6pm

Our Real Kids have been working hard over the past couple of months on a Christmas Musical and they’re excited to share it with us on this evening. We’ll have Real Life Community set up for dessert around tables where we’ll get to take in a great show from our kids! You won’t want to miss this!

Sunday, December 16th – Youth Christmas Party, 5pm

The youth will enjoy a progressive dinner around Murfreesboro hosted by our church families that will end in a party and White Elephant gift exchange. Sam will be providing more details to families of teens.

Sunday, December 23rd – Clean Water Project Offering

Each year, we take up a Christmas project that helps us share God’s love with those in need in tangible ways (for the background of this tradition, check out Advent Conspiracy here). Often, this has taken the form of a clean water project, which we’ll be doing again this year. On this Sunday (and the next), we’ll be receiving a special offering for this year’s Clean Water Project. This year we’ve chosen Chinapeten, Guatemala where we’re also sending a medical mission team in February. We’re excited to provide clean water to this community in need, which will be a great benefit to the overall health of the community and serve as a witness to the love of God for them.

The overall goal for this project is $4,000. We’ll be sharing it with a couple of other churches on the district, but we want to raise as much as we can to help!

Monday, December 24th – Christmas Eve Service, 5:30pm

This service is always a highlight of the year. This year, we’ll be sharing in this special service of singing and reading the Christmas story together. You won’t want to miss it. Bring the whole family!

Sunday, December 30th – One Combined Service, 10am

For the weekend between Christmas and New Year’s, we’ll enjoy a service together as a church family at 10am.

Finally, we’re excited to share that we have developed, together with our sister Murfreesboro Nazarene Churches, our very own weekly family devotional for the 2019 calendar year. It’s called “Studying Together” and was developed with families with children in mind. Each devotional, written by someone in one of our congregations, includes a creative idea to do together as a family. The cost for this devotional is only $8.50 and any proceeds will go towards supporting the Miller family in their mission work in Papua New Guinea. A huge thank you to Ciara Cunningham for organizing this project! You can pick one (or twelve) up here!
