Message Series – Body Life
One of the deep beliefs we hold at Real Life Community is that each one of us is hard-wired for relationship. The primary, reality-defining, absolutely essential relationship is our relationship of covenant love with God. But you and I don’t experience this relationship in a vacuum. Woven throughout the story of God’s redemptive work in creation is God’s desire to rescue, form and heal, not just individual lives, but also a community…a people.
And so, you and I were made for relationship with one another as well.
At Real Life, we refer to this in line one of our Mission Statement – “Connecting with God and Others.”
It all starts there. We were made to be in deep, personal relationship with Jesus…and as a result of that relationship, we are enveloped into a community as members who are all connected by God’s saving love and grace to the same Jesus.
It’s no wonder, then, that a good portion of the New Testament (and especially letters like 1 Corinthians and Ephesians) try to flesh out how that community God is shaping is meant to function. One of the metaphors to help us understand our deep connection with God and others in and through Jesus Christ is that of the Body.
So, over the next few weeks we’re going to be diving into passages like 1 Corinthians 12 and Ephesians 4 to look closely at that metaphor. What does it mean to be “members of the Body of Christ”? How do things like Spiritual Gifts work? What does unity look like in a body full of different parts with different functions?
We hope to see you this Sunday at 9:30 or 11am as we worship and discuss “Body Life.”
